VaMoS 2017 will be held at the TU/e Science park of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Eindhoven and TU/e are at the heart of Brainport, a leading European technology region, and a center for innovation and hi-tech industry, with a.o. the TU/e Science park, High Tech Campus Eindhoven, and the Automotive Campus in Helmond. Eindhoven is also a center of Dutch industrial design, and hosts many cultural events and museums.
Traveling to and from Eindhoven
Eindhoven Airport (a 15-20 minute bus ride to/from Eindhoven’s main train station) offers direct flights to and from 75 European destinations, including e.g. London, Münich, Madrid, Rome, and Copenhagen. International hub Amsterdam Airport Schiphol with direct flights to over 200 cities across the world is reachable from Eindhoven in less than 1½ hour by direct train every 15 minutes during the day. The international airports of Düsseldorf and Brussels are fairly close too (1½-2h by car), though less easy to reach by public transport (2-3h, with one or two transfers).
Getting around in Eindhoven
TU/e Science park is a 10-minute stroll from the main train and bus station which itself is right next to the downtown area with many hotels, shops, and entertainment. There are frequent busses between downtown and airport, and between the main station and various parts of the city. For getting from downtown to TU/e Science park, walking is recommended and fastest, although there are bus services onto campus (sporadic) or stopping along the edge of campus. See the bus information screens and route maps outside the main station for details, or use e.g. Google Maps with integrated Dutch public transport schedules, or the 9292 planner (also available in English).
Dutch public transport generally uses an integrated payment system covering both trains and buses, using the OV-Chipkaart. For train rides, self-printed single and return e-tickets are also available (note: you will need a print out!). The anonymous version of the OV-Chipkaart and throwaway chip card tickets for train rides should be available from many of the yellow NS ticket vending machines, and from NS train operator service counters (including those at Schiphol airport). For buses, either an OV-Chipkaart or a cash once-off or day ticket bought from the bus driver are options. More information in English at NS.nl or at OV-Chipkaart.nl.
